Are you interested in finding work in the growing retail, accommodation, food service and tourism sectors?
Are you new, returning or unsure about searching for a job?
The RAFT Program can help you find your ideal job when you enroll in our free, supportive 5 week training program. Retail, accommodation, food service & tourism are growing industries in the Kootenays and across BC, offering great employment opportunities.
When: March 12 to April 12, 2018
What you get: classroom and community based learning focusing on determining your goals, helping you craft your resume and building interview and other relevant skills, 5 useful certifications you will need in your work search including Serving It Right, World Host and more.
All costs, including certification fees and transport to employer visits are covered by the RAFT Program.
RAFT also offers:
• home to classroom transportation and childcare subsidies
• clothing allowance for job search
• grocery stipend
• free, healthy lunches every day
The program consists of 5 weeks of in-class and community based training, Monday to Thursday, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. On Friday mornings, your facilitator provides drop-in supported job search.
The training days will be a mix of skills training (conflict resolution, effective communication, interview skills, Microsoft Word & Excel 2016, customer service, and online platforms), self-exploration (Myers Brigg assessment), labour market research (employer visits) and certifications (World Host, Serving-it-Right, Food Safe, WHMIS, & Workplace First Aid). These days may include lunches out and visits to local employers, as well as training offsite where applicable, such as First Aid training at Selkirk College.
When you find work in one of the RAFT sectors at the completion of the program or within 3 months, your new employer will be able to access a 4 week wage subsidy to help you with getting established in your new job.
