EMPLOYER FAQ’S

Who can post a job on kootenay.jobs?

Any employer or private resident looking to hire someone for paid or volunteer work in the Kootenay area.  Our job board primarily covers work with the Castlegar, Nelson, Salmo, Slocan Valley, and Kaslo areas but jobs outside our area may also be posted.  All job postings must comply with BC’s minimum wage and be free of discrimination (please visit www2.gov.bc.ca/gov for more information about BC’s Employment Standards).  Any postings or wording within postings deemed unacceptable will be removed from the site.

Do I need to sign up for an account before I post a job?

No, you do not need to sign up with an account before posting a job, however posting a job will initiate an account being created on your behalf.  If you are new to kootenay.jobs and are posting your first job, simply click on the ‘Post a Job’ tab at the top of the screen.  As part of the job posting process, you will be asked for your email address, which will automatically create you an account on kootenay.jobs.  You will then receive an email with your password to the site, which you can change to something that suits you better.  You will be asked for an additional email address for applicants to apply to which can either be the same as the account email or a different email address, depending on your preference.

How do I post a job?
  • If you have not yet signed up for a profile on kootenay.jobs you can either click the Sign Up button and create an account, or head directly to the Post a Job link to post your first job (which will automatically create you an account)
  • If you have already created an account on kootenay.jobs, simply sign in and click on Post a Job.
How can I make changes to my job posting after it is live on kootenay.jobs?

To edit a job posting after it is live on kootenay.jobs, sign in to your account and under the Employers tab at the top of the page go to your Employer Dashboard OR click on Your Profile.  You will find your job under My Job Postings, click on the edit button to the far right of the job posting.  Make any changes and click on Save Changes at the bottom of the screen.

How do I change my password?

To change your password you must be signed in to your account on kootenay.jobs.  On the black bar at the top of the screen on the right hand side, you will see a message that says ‘Howdy, your username’. Hover over that message and click on Edit My Profile.  From here, you will be directed to login with your password one more time and then taken to your Profile screen.  Scroll down until you see Account Management and click on the Generate Password button.  An automatically generated password will appear and you can type over this with any password you like.  Make sure you have checked the box that says ‘Confirm use of weak password’ if the site has determined your password is not strong enough and click on the Update Profile button at the bottom of the screen.  We suggest you use symbols and numbers within your password to create a strong password.

How do I recover my password if I’ve forgotten it?

If you have forgotten your password, click on the Log In button at the top of your screen and click on the Lost Password link.  You will be asked for your Username or Email Address and be emailed a link to generate a new password.  If this does not work for some reason, give us a call at 250.352.6200 ext 221 and we can help you reset your password.

Can I re-post a job that I had posted before?

Absolutely!  Simply sign in to the site, and head to your employer dashboard (from the Employer tab).  In the Job Postings section, scroll down to find the appropriate job posting and click the ‘Relist’ button.  Your job listing will open up in edit mode and you can make any changes, including the closing date, before republishing the posting.

Who can I contact if I am having trouble with my account, posting a job, or have general feedback about kootenay.jobs?

Please call our Self Serve specialists in Nelson at 250.352.6200 ext 221 or in Castlegar at 250.365.6515 ext 401 for assistance any time between 8:30am – 4:30pm Monday – Friday.  You can also send us an email at vsr@kcds.ca for assistance or with feedback.

How do I take a job off the site if it is filled prior to the closing date?

If you have found the right person for your job prior to the expiry or closing date of your job posting, you can easily ‘fill’ the job on our website to ensure that you no longer receive new applications.  Simply sign in to your account and under the Employers tab go to your Employer Dashboard OR click on Your Profile.  You will find your job under My Job Postings, click on the Mark filled button to the far right of the job posting.

My logo does not appear correctly on my job posting, how can I fix it?

Company logos must fit in to a square shaped box on our site, and your logo may not fit!  If you are computer savy, the easiest way to make it fit is to copy the image into a word document, ensure there is white space around your image, and take a square shaped ‘snip’ of your logo, and save and upload this image.  If this sounds to complicated and you need help, please give us a call at 250.352.6200 ext 221 and we would be happy to assist you.  The great news is that once you have uploaded your logo once, it will appear in all new job postings!

Can I use kootenay.jobs to search the resumes of applicants in the Kootenays?

Yes you can!  From the Employers tab, select ‘Search Resumes’.  From here you can enter specific key words to search, or scroll through the pages of resumes to see if there are any candidates you would like to reach out to.  Note that resumes appear in date order, most recent appearing first on the list.  Some applicants on the site may no longer be looking for work at the current time.

Why did I get an email telling me an applicant applied to my job through kootenay.jobs when I specified in my job ad that I wanted applicants to apply in person?

Each job posting does have the ‘apply now’ button available, even if you have specified job applicants to apply in a different manner.  In this case, the applicant did not read the job posting thoroughly and it’s up to you whether you consider their application for the job!
